Manja Scott Born in Zagreb, Croatia in 1945, Manja Scott lived in Ethiopia, Zambia and Kenya for 18 years. She now lives in Oxford, England. As a visual artist, Scott is almost entirely self-taught. From 1984 to 1998 she devoted herself to textile design and experimented with different techniques and media. Since mid-1998, she has focused on drawing and printmaking, showing particular interest in how the relationship of line, colour, and form is changed by the medium used. Her work displays a strong influence from folk culture as well as nature. "The overpowering influence of Africa after 16 years is starting to fade and I am beginning to find inspiration in my own European/Balkan culture after recent visits to my native Croatia". Manja Scott exhibits regularly with the Oxford Printmakers and Oxford Art Society. She has also held numerous solo shows and exhibited many times in Europe and Africa. In 2000 she was joint winner of the Julian Trevelyan Award at the National Print Exhibition. Her website is www.manjascott.com. |
