Karen Barber

Karen Barber is based in Bristol, England. She has worked in theatre design and ceramics before training in printing techniques at Bristol's famed Spike Island, home to a wide variety of painters, sculptors, printmakers and teachers.

Barber's work is unlimited by materials, using fabrics, string, gold leaf, a variety of papers and thick paints to create wildly coloured and deeply layered works. Her references and inspiration come from architecture, jewels and the play of light of surfaces such as water.

Barbers work is found in a number of private collections as well as the corporate collections of the Bank of England, British Airways and others. A series of her works fills the rooms of the Wilbraham Hotel in Knightsbridge, London.
