Joanna Sims Joanna Sims spent her childhood in Australia before training in Britain. She now lives in her studio in a converted mill in Wiltshire, England. Sims’ work divides mainly into two categories. Paintings reflecting her childhood memories abstractly depict the Australian coast and the extremes of its weather. They are often densely painted with bold areas of bright colour. Her life drawings on the other hand use minimal colour and the simple line to minimize and strengthen the pure form. The contours of the model at first appear to flow like the Wiltshire landscape around Sims’ home but always have the disciplined restrictions imposed by the human body. Joanna teaches as well as creating her own works. She exhibits regularly and is represented in a number of corporate and private collections. |
