Jonathan Garratt

Jonathan Garratt is a renowned British potter, who lives and works in Cranborne, Dorset. He uses locally dug clay which he treats and prepares himself, taking several seasons to prepare a medium that it strong enough to withstand frost and therefore excellent for use outdoors.

The clay is wood-fired to produce work ranging from unusual garden planters to slipware, decorative pots and garden art installations. Many of Garratt’s influences derive from prehistoric pottery and other artefacts and from tribal arts. All of the work is imbued with the spirit of experimentalism and often with an almost absurdist sense of humour.

Jonathan Garratt’s work has appeared in many exhibitions including The Shape of the Century, a major retrospective of twentieth century British sculpture shown in the city of Salisbury and Canary Wharf, London.
